Destination Unknown was printed and hand-bound in Nashville, Tennessee, by yours truly. It is a hardcover photography book comprised of 16 of my color photographs taken in 2022 (Click here to see the images). Printed here in my studio and then bound using an inventive drum-leaf binding and breakaway spine which allow the book to lay open flat. A great way to display photographs. To finish off the outside of the book, it is covered with a twisting swirl of Italian decorative paper. The spine is wrapped in navy book cloth.

Destination Unknown is made up of a constellation of images without first knowing what I would find. Collecting the images from a year’s work seemed but a small measure when held against the vastness of our existence. As the project progressed, the title became not only a reference to my process but also a metaphor for the book’s sentiment.  At year’s end, the photographs converged to tell a story about a quantity of life. What is that story? You will have to look and see.

Interestingly, I came upon the title of this book during a trip to Savannah, Georgia. I graciously borrowed it from an epitaph engraved on the poet Conrad Aiken’s bench in Bonaventure Cemetery. It reads:
